A lot of historians do agree that Jesus existed. However, for most he was Jewish, a good teacher from Galilee in Roman Judaea. They would say that yes he was baptized by John the Baptist in the river Jordan and was crucified in Jerusalem, ordered by Pontius Pilate. These scholars have given their opinion on describing Jesus, how he looked and his description. He has been labeled a rabbi, a healer, a leader, a Messiah and many believe he was very prophetic. He was all this but not the son of God or God himself. Scholars along with Christians and non Christians study the historical records to agree with an estimated chronology of Jesus’ life.
Christians believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He was born of a virgin. When he was baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus knew he was the son of God. He prayed, performed miracles, founded the Church, he was crucified to achieve atonement, died, then rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven from which we believe, he will return. Most Christians believe that Jesus was God in human flesh. He came to show us how to live the best life possible. He is called God the Son, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.
Not all Christians believe in the Trinity which is God the father, God the son, God the Holy Spirit. It is a stronger majority who believe that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah promised in the Old Testament as God. Their strong argument is that he fulfilled many Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament.
